Respect for Life: A Brother’s Love

“I want to be just like my big brother, Cade, when I grow up because he’s so kind.” Recently, on a Saturday morning, at a Young American Football League (YAFL) game in Albuquerque, NM Cade and his younger brother Carter were recognized by players and coaches. Carter who would likely be a gifted athlete fights to live his life to the fullest every minute of the day despite the frequent seizures that plague his body. Cade, age 11, plays football and is living his younger brother’s dream. With pride, Cade takes Carter by the hand and walks onto the field at the beginning of the football game. As all the spectators take notice, Carter is recognized as a member of the team and his brother, Cade, their hero.
I submitted this photo because Cade is an amazing older brother who has selflessly tried to make his brother’s dream of being an athlete come true. He treats him with such kindness, care and love. Cade rallied his teammates to accept Carter as a part of the team and Carter now leads the team onto the field for each game as the team’s mascot.
